Youth and adults are invited to join Camp Swatara friends for an exciting overnight Global Gateway adventure this fall! This cultural immersion experience will take place at the Heifer Project International Global Village, located at Shepherd's Spring Outdoor Ministry Center (Sharpsburg, MD). The Global Village features replicas of homes, gardens, and livestock from developing nations where Heifer Project is active. Participants will tour the village and then be assigned to one of the eight home sites (Guatemala, Mozambique, Kenya, Appalachia, Refugee, Thailand, or Tibet) to cook dinner, sleep, and make breakfast. The experience will challenge participants to examine their own habits, consumption, and beliefs through unique hands-on learning experiences that seek to promote an awareness and understanding of care for Creation, global economics, hunger, multiculturalism, and poverty. The group will gather at Camp Swatara on Saturday, October 7th to load up and travel to Maryland. A pick-up location in Harrisburg is also an option. We will return to camp on Sunday, October 8th. Participants must be at least 12 years old and youth age 12-17 must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is just $85 per person and includes transportation to and from Maryland, a packed lunch for Saturday, and the Global Gateway experience. Register online at www.campswatara.org or by sending in the form below with your registration fee (non refundable) by Sept. 8, 2017.
